OGCA'S PATHWAYS TO ICI:
"CONSTRUCTION LOOKS LIKE ME"
Build the business case from the perspective of the end user
By KHAMLA KHAMPHENGMEUANG AND KHOA LY-KILIS, OGCA’S PATHWAYS TO ICI
PECIFIC TO PATHWAYS’ OBJECTIVES, in order to effectively represent
the perspective of the end user, it is critical to engage
the end user in the stages of research, development,
validation, piloting and fine tuning. This has always
been, and will continue to be, the focus of who, why,
and how OGCA’s Pathways to ICI works alongside the
industry to successfully develop and deliver programs to address
the skill shortages specific to careers in construction, with a focus
on careers in construction management. The goal is to create
impactful programs, tools, and resources to help attract, recruit,
train, transition, and upskill new and existing talent, as well address
challenges and opportunities for retention through accessible and
equitable career advancement and promotion.
Pathways' main objective is to address the skill shortages
through three program paths - namely, the New Entrants Bridging
Program, the Upskilling Toolkit and the We CAN (Connect, Advance
Navigate) Reflection Series. The underlying common theme is to
address the stigma of what a career in construction looks like, and
who works in construction.
At OGCA’s AGM in September, Pathways to ICI launched the “Construction Looks Like Me” Video Campaign to continue the conversation that construction is for everyone, construction builds careers,
and construction looks like me. Construction is diverse - in people,
projects and career paths.
