Are you seeing a trend?
Lastly, research shows that
networking within professional
associations leads to a threefold bene昀椀t.
The 昀椀rst is the propensity to develop
stronger relationships. Members build
meaningful connections that foster
camaraderie, loyalty, and emotional
support. These relationships may also
yield economic bene昀椀ts, since once you
realize that you share ideologies, this
opens the possibility of a future joint
venture or other working relationships.
The second is what that OGCA prides
itself on - and knows yields bene昀椀ts
to our members - knowledge sharing.
Members exchange information, ideas,
mentor one another, and collaborate on
industry challenges.
We see so much of this information
exchange and knowledge transfer
through our Safety Advisory Committee
and Innovation Committee.
The OGCA constantly notes that
“safety is not proprietary,” and since
we take this approach, the sharing of
information is commonplace. This
betters the industry. It literally makes
us all safer, since we collectively learn
from each other. If one of the members
reports on an incident, all other members
understand the issue immediately
and rally to ensure that knowledge is
disseminated through their networks to
prevent hazards or ensure compliance
with procedures.
The members on these committees
are experts, and their input on speci昀椀c
matters bene昀椀ts everyone since
they share openly and often. All this
knowledge and information sharing
bene昀椀ts the industry because you don’t
need to personally experience something
to understand how it will ultimately
better or hinder your company. This in
turn makes people 5% happier!
The third bene昀椀t is through increased
visibility. Do you want your name to be
recognized and known throughout the
industry? Then a simple way to get noticed
and called upon for our experience and
expertise is by engaging with peers and
thought leaders.
Involvement in any of the OGCA
committees will raise a member’s
individual and corporate pro昀椀le and
credibility. You are already a credible
contractor in the eyes of public buyers
because you are a member of the OGCA.
The next step is to become more
acquainted in one - or all - of the facets
of the association. The more involvement
you decide to provide, the more ful昀椀lling
it will become.
By this point, you are probably way
beyond the 10% happier limit that was
indicated at the start. If you aren’t, go
back to the beginning and re-read this
article!

OGCA, making a di昀昀erence in you
