While the external design might appear
like a Type I hard hat, the structural and
internal upgrades are anything but. A
traditional Type I model typically features
only a basic suspension system. In
contrast, Type II climbing-style helmets
incorporate:
• Energy-distributing foam liners
• Adjustable neck harnesses
• Replaceable crown liners and headbands
• A tougher shell capable of dispersing
impact from all angles

Within the shell of a Type I Hard Hat
(Figure 3.1), all that separates the head
from the shell is a traditional internal
suspension system. When comparing that
with the interior of the Type II Climbing
Style Helmet, you see a much more robust
protection system (Figure 3.2).
