Villages of Chesterville’s and Winchester’s long-term
potable water supply
The Township of North Dundas’s Drinking Water Supply
System located in eastern Ontario, supplies treated water to
residents and other industrial, commercial and institutional
users within the Villages of Winchester and Chesterville.
Winchester and Chesterville have populations of 2,394 and
1,677, respectively, and their water treatment and
distribution system is owned by the Township and operated
by Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA).
Following numerous water colour quality concerns raised by
its residents, the Township retained JLR to undertake a
Schedule 'C' Municipal Class Environmental Assessment in
2021. The process determined that the system needed
expansion to meet Chesterville's long-term potable water
supply needs and address reported aesthetic drinking water
concerns associated with elevated levels of iron and
manganese.
This resulted in a teamwork effort between JLR, the Township, OCWA, Louis W. Bray Construction Limited, and
subconsultants/subcontractors to improve the potable water filtration and storage system and allow it to meet
federal and provincial guidelines for iron and manganese. The system consisting of two active wells, a pump
house with sodium hypochlorite disinfection, and an underground storage reservoir was upgraded with a new iron
and manganese filtration system, sodium hypochlorite feed system, and new above grade reservoir.
