YOUNG LEADER AWARD
MISHAAL RIZWAN, MES (PL.) - ENVIRONMENTAL
PLANNER, R.J. BURNSIDE & ASSOCIATED LTD.
Mishaal Rizwan is currently an Environmental Planner at R.J.
Burnside and Associates Limited. She is responsible for
Municipal Class Environmental Assessments and stakeholder
engagement. Mishaal holds a Master of Environmental Studies
from the University of Waterloo School of Planning and is a
candidate member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute,
working towards becoming a Registered Professional Planner.
She has experience in both the public and private sectors, having
begun her career working in natural hazard management. She
moved to the private sector in 2021, focusing on linear
infrastructure projects. Mishaal is passionate about
meaningful public engagement and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Mishaal joined OPWA in 2023 and has since been an active member of the Young Professional Committee and
the EDI Committee. She also currently serves as Vice Chair of the Communications Committee. Mishaal is
excited to continue working with the OPWA and contributing to the public works industry.
